The second install of a series on the history of drink and it’s influences both social and mechanical on the world. Starting in at around the mid 1700’s to the 1960’s.

Starting with distillation and steam engines it progresses through the early history of cocktails as we start to know them, through the heydays and golden age of cocktails, prohibitions of absinthe and then alcohol itself. From there it chronicles the exile of many famous bartenders and the spread of cocktails and expatriate talent into Europe. It ends with the Tiki movement and the decline of the cocktail through both social and technological changes. . . it is hoped the third installment will cover the happier recent renaissance of cocktails after this dark period.

A relentlessly researched and full of fascinating facts for both the casual reader and scholar of spirits , I highly recommend it as a addition to your reference library.
